The Work Safely at Heights course is designed for individuals who work in operational roles that may require working at heights. This course includes information on work procedures, how to identify important work requirements, assessment and installation of necessary equipment, how to perform work at heights and steps to cleaning up a work area. Students will learn to use height safety procedures, ensuring their work activity is in compliance with safety regulations. They will learn WHS requirements, as well as how to adhere to those requirements. The course also teaches individuals how to identify, choose and check out safety equipment before work.
Students that take the Work Safely at Heights course will also learn to identify the approved methods of moving equipment and tools to the work area while minimising any potential hazards of using equipment and tools at heights. Individuals will also be taught how to inspect and install perimeter protection equipment and fall protection around the job site for improved safety. Once fall protection is in place, students are instructed on how to appropriate adjust it when moving while working at heights. When working at heights, students are taught how to check the access from the ground to the work area, ensuring that it’s safe. The course also includes information on reassessing risk control measures, monitoring risk control measures and regularly checking safety systems for compliance.
After successfully completing the Work Safely at Heights course, students will be provided with a statement of attainment for the course: RIIWHS204D - Work Safely at Heights. Once students have completed the course, they will have the information and training necessary to work at heights safely, both in infrastructure and resources industries.
Taking this course provides individuals with the information they will need to complete work at heights in a safe, efficient, effective and timely manner. Safety measures are taught to ensure the safety of workers, such as how to care for, select and wear essential personal protective equipment and using the required safety systems for fall prevention and protection. Students who complete the course will have the knowledge needed to comply with safe work methods.
