The Load and Unload Goods/Cargo course is designed to provide students with the skills and knowledge they need to safely load and unload cargo and goods. The course includes information such as protecting loads, securing loads, completing required documentation, and loading and unloading cargo. Students learn how to take load characteristics into account to determine the appropriate procedures for loading and unloading the goods. They also will learn how to identify and handle hazardous and dangerous goods according to the Australian Dangerous Goods Code, as well as other relevant permit requirements and regulations.
This course will also provide students with training on how to efficiently and safely unload goods while taking the safe use of equipment, balance of the load, locations and stowage into account. They will be taught how to deal with goods that requirement special documentation and handling, identifying the procedures that must be followed when loading and unloading these goods.
After students complete the Load and Unload Goods/Cargo course successfully, they will be provided with their Statement of Attainment for the Load and Unload Goods/Cargo course. This course is beneficial to students, even if they have taken the course before, since taking it on a yearly basis ensures that students keep their understanding and knowledge of the course material current. Once students have completed this course, they will have the knowledge and skills required to unload and load cargo and goods safely.
Once the course has been completed, students will have the benefit of having essential skills, such as identifying goods coding, containers coding, IMDG markings and ADG markings. They’ll also have the ability to estimate the special requirements, shape and size of different loads, allowing them to take the appropriate action. Students will have the skills to collaborate with others as they unload and load cargo and goods. Other essential skills that students will possess after taking this course include: the ability to modify loading and unloading activities based upon environments, risk situations and operational contingencies, the ability to work carefully without damaging equipment, goods, or persons, and the ability to choose and use the personal protective equipment that is required on the job, according to OH&S and industry standards.
