The Drive Multi-Combination Vehicle course is specifically designed to provide students with all the information they need to operate a Multi-Combination vehicle safely, and they will learn essential skills needed to operate this type of vehicle. Some of the skills that will be taught in this course include how to uncouple and couple dollies, how to effectively deal with vehicle performance, how to take care of vehicle maintenance, controlling the vehicle’s various functions and information on effectively managing hazardous situations. Students will be instructed on how to stop, start, manoeuvre, position and steer this type of a vehicle. Instruction on how to drive a multi-combination vehicle in reverse safely will also be provided.
When students take the Drive Multi-Combination vehicle course, they will also learn about the lights and signage that must be used for operational effectiveness and conformity. They’ll learn how to constantly monitor and act upon traffic and road conditions, ensuring that the vehicle is operated safely so no injury to equipment, property, facilities, loads and people occurs. Other skills that will be taught in this course include monitoring vehicle efficiency, dealing with performance problems or malfunctions, recording keeping skills, proper coupling of the dollies, trailer and prime mover, and checking and testing a coupled vehicle.
Students that take the Drive Multi-Combination Vehicle course will enjoy a blend of practical training and theory, ensuring they have the best experience and training. After students complete this course with success, they will be issued a Statement of Attainment for the Drive Multi-Combination Vehicle course. Completion of the course ensures that students have the experience and skills that they need to safely and effectively operate a Multi-Combination vehicle. Students may take the licensing examination after taking this course, which will be conducted under or by the road traffic authority.
After taking this course on how to drive a multi-combination vehicle, students will have important skills required for the operation of this vehicle, including air brakes operation, navigation techniques, map reading skills, effects and causes of fatigue while driving. Other beneficial skills students will acquire include operational and workplace driving instructions, regulations and procedures for OH&S, road license requirements, relevant regulations, road rules and permit requirements, and strategies for managing fatigue while on the road.
