The Drive Heavy Combination Vehicle course offers students the knowledge and skills they will need in order to safely drive a heavy combination vehicle. They will learn how to control the heavy combination vehicle’s functions, how to manage vehicle performance and condition, how to uncouple and couple a trailer, how to deal with hazardous situations effectively, and how to monitor road conditions and traffic. Students will also learn how to operate the engine properly, how to drive the heavy combination vehicle in reverse and how to manage power for improve performance and efficiency.
This course also offers students with information on parking, shutting down, uncoupling, and securing a heavy combination vehicle according to workplace procedures, manufacturer’s specifications, and traffic regulations. They’ll learn how to deal with permit applications for over wide and overweight vehicles, as well as how to check lights and signage for operational effectiveness. Other skills that students will learn when they take the Drive Heavy Combination Vehicle course include how to conduction pre-operational checks and inspections, how to align a trailer and mover correctly, how to test and check a coupled vehicle, how to monitor vehicle operation performance, and how to update and properly maintain vehicle records.
